Aberdeen’s retail sector will be given a further boost this Saturday (August 22) with the opening of three top high street brands in the city’s premier shopping destination.

Topshop and Topman will open for the first time in the Bon Accord Centre while River Island will open bigger premises next door. The new stores further strengthen Aberdeen’s Bon Accord and St Nicholas Centres’ positioning as the top fashion destination for the North and North-east of Scotland.

The interior of the new Aberdeen Topshop and Topman will be based on the recently opened New York store – they are the only Scottish stores to boast this look.

Topshop will stock denim, shoes, lingerie, tall, petite, Kate Moss and a selection of Topshop’s designer collaborations, together with its range of mainline collections.

To mark the opening, Topshop street teams will hand out gift cards in Aberdeen city centre and there will be a competition to win the entire contents of the window display and free sunglasses with every £30 spent. Topman teams will be handing out flyers with unique giftcodes - customers will need to take their unique code to the new Aberdeen store to redeem their gift, where they can receive up to £100 to spend instore.

River Island, which will move from its current unit in Aberdeen’s St Nicholas Centre, will stock the complete selection of its exclusively designed in house range of both men’s and women’s fashion. The brand has a 100 strong design team and each year more than 12,000 pieces of clothing are produced for its 250 stores nationwide.

‘’River Island are very excited about the new store in the Bon Accord Shopping Centre. The store will serve to epitomise the brand’s design ethos and provide a modern and forward thinking environment in which to shop,” said a River Island spokesperson.

These will be the latest in a raft of new store openings in the Bon Accord Centre, Aberdeen – Scotland’s biggest Next recently opened, as have bigger shops for Warehouse, Oasis and Coast, as well as the

only Scottish Karen Millen shop outwith the central belt.

Cheryl Baer, Marketing Manager of the Bon Accord and St Nicholas Centres in Aberdeen, says the new stores further underlines the Centres’ position on the Scottish retail map.

“These are hugely popular brands, essential to any shopping centre, and they will be a great draw for shoppers. They are further building on the strong fashion focus we have, particularly in the Bon Accord Centre which now boasts a number of flagship stores and brands which aren’t available anywhere else in the North and North-east of Scotland,” she said.

“As well as benefiting from a far bigger range of fashion, these new stores are fresh, modern and funky, which will add to the overall shopping experience.

“We are particularly excited that the new Topshop and Topman will be the brand’s first shops in Scotland to have a shop fit based on the New York store as this will give shoppers an exclusive insight into the now famous Broadway store.

“These openings are playing an important part of a bigger picture of change at the Bon Accord and St Nicholas Centres. This area of the Bon Accord Centre, in particular, has a range and depth of fashion which is second to none across the North and North-east of Scotland.”

Emma Watt, Brand Manager for Aberdeen City and Shire, said that the new stores are testimony to the confidence that retailers have in the Centres and the stability of the region.

“The face of Aberdeen’s retail sector is changing and the Bon Accord and St Nicholas Centres are playing a pivotal role in this transformation,” she said.

“Topshop, Topman and River Island are among the best know High Street names and these bigger stores are guaranteed to prove exceptionally popular, ensuring that not only are shoppers staying in Aberdeen but that visitors are now coming to the city, specifically because of the strength of retail offering.”
